Chicago Made

During the Producing a News Website class at Medill, our team of 11 planned and created a live news website focused on entrepreneurship in Chicago. Sunday through Thursday were our reporting and production days and we went live every Friday. 

Each team member was assigned a new role weekly. Roles consisted of: managing editor, technical editor, senior multimedia producer, copy chief, deputy editor, social media editor and production editor.

Planting new seeds

The Plant Chicago is a new food incubator that connects the “outputs of one business to the inputs of another.” Inside an old meatpacking building, they use vertical gardens and renewable energy to make their sustainable food production work. The Plant’s business model is based off of the desire to close waste, resource, and energy loops. The owners of the Plant are hoping to use this new model to pave the way and show others that sustainable food production and economic development can be done.(Read more.)
